I awoke upon the emerald lands
a light wind blowing across my skin
underneath a tree of shade
with apples on every end
Of course, this has to be dream
I tell myself out loud
as a snake of scarlet
falls towards the ground
and I, not fearing such
remain very, very still
for if it isn't a dream
I'd rather not be killed
The snake senses me with his tongue
and almost seems to purr
as he twirls around my arm
I listen to its words
"Here issss your one chanssse"
it forces out between hisses
"Choossse between knowledge
or never ending ssstupidity."
It wasn't much of an argument
but, yet, I knew the price
should I choose the apple
I fall to hell's device
Even knowing and being the christian that I am
I could not stomach the idea
of sacrificing all the thoughts I have
giving up my life plans
The scarlet snake glistens
and his beady eyes gaze up
waiting for my answer
but I can't quite use my tongue
To force this choice
I cannot say
what sane person
would choose the latter way?
It is a dangerous thought
but I awake before I can say
and as I lay in bed
the choice is clear to me
Without telling you my choice
and writing this down
the fact that I wrote this poem
is knowledge that I have
What would you choose
as the snake slithers across your hand
would you choose the latter
or would an apple cross your lips?
